Conjunctiva & Sclera

The wall of the eye is a tough white layer known as the Sclera. The conjunctiva is a very thin loose clear layer covering the sclera and inside of the eyelids.

The conjunctiva can become red and sore if the eyes are dry, inflamed (sclerits and episcleritis) or infected (conjunctivitis).
